Streptococcus pneumoniae infection can lead to serious and potentially life-threatening illness, referred to as invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD). This includes bloodstream infection, bacteraemic pneumonia, empyema, and meningitis. The impact is greatest among young children, patients with immunosuppression and chronic diseases, and in older adults [1].
