In July 2007, I did an elective in general medicine at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH). QEH is located in Kota Kinabalu, the state capital of Sabah in East Malaysia, on the island of Borneo. Sabah is known as the ‘land below the wind’, due to its location just below the typhoon belt in the South China Sea. QEH is the biggest hospital in East Malaysia, and caters for patients from Kota Kinabalu, as well as referrals from regional hospitals around Sabah
